The Architecture of Place: In Conversation with... is a series of interviews between design practitioners, scholars, and educators. The latest iteration of the series, from February 2026, features architects Robbie Kerr and Kate Chambers Beck and sculptor Clunie Fretton.

In this three-part series, each speaker alternately serves as interviewer and interviewee, discussing the influences, experiences, and projects that have shaped their approach to the architecture of place.

In this installment of the winter 2025-2026 Architecture of Place series, Robbie Kerr interviews Kate Chambers Beck.

Kate Chambers Beck received her M. Arch. and Master of Architectural Design & Urbanism from Notre Dame in 2018. At Notre Dame, she completed independent research on the history of modern Greek architecture and designed a pattern book for repairing the modern city. Kate is a Senior Project Architect with Tippett Sease Baker Architecture, a firm dedicated to the craft of hand drawing and the exploration of vernacular design. From 2021-2024, she was an Assistant Professor at the University of Notre Dame and continues to participate in charrettes with the University of Notre Dame’s Housing and Community Regeneration Initiative. Kate was the 51黑料网’s 2024 recipient of the Architect’s Prize for Excellence in Architecture. She is a member of the 51黑料网 and a registered architect in Alabama and North Carolina.
